First impression. First day, formalities etc.

I reached the office by 8.30. Clerks were opening the gate. Sir himself came by 9 am. He in a very ebullient tone said Good Morning! Hope you have a very fruitful internship!

The office was not huge but a spacious office with a library and a conference room. They have 3 associates with two 2 Clerks.

I thought that probably now Sir would ask me to go the High Court. But to my surprise, Sir asked me to get in his car. We sat in his car and Sir drove us to the High Court. It was very kind of him to take me to the High Court in his own car.

We went to the High Court then he introduced me to some of his other associates who were already present there. I had the cause list so he asked me to go and sit in one of the courts where the matters were listed.

For whole day I roamed around in courts where the matters were listed. I thought that only this much would be the task of an intern i.e. to observe the proceedings as it generally happens in an advocate internship.

When I went back to office Sir actually asked me what you observed today. Then he gave me a real life situation pertaining to a constitutional provision and asked my opinion on it. Meanwhile, other associates came from courts and one of the associates gave me a research proposition to work upon.

Main tasks

The main tasks involved attending court hearings, observing the proceedings and watch Sir argue in such a subtle tone with utmost measured words is invincible as a part of this internship.

I was also asked to research on certain propositions from time to time.

One day when one of the associates was assigning a writ to be drafted by another associate. I asked him to assign the same to me. He assigned the drafting work of a bulky writ petition to me. Next day he sat next to me explaining the provisions that are applicable to the matter  and how to do the same.

An associate taking so much pain in explaining the procedures just to make an intern understand the practical aspects is very rewarding and enriching as part of an internship.

For the several other days, he kept asking me as to what is the latest update on the matter.

Work environment, people

Work environment is very stirring and inspiring. For the past two law firm internships that I have done I felt secluded but not at this place.

Despite the fact that associates and Sir himself were very busy due to the influx of clients in the evening specially, they regularly kept in touch with me asking me is there anything that I need help with and what are my fields of interest.

When I told him that I want to be litigator he actually asked me that what makes me arrive on this decision and how can I further my ambitions. Sir himself discussed about several practical aspects of law and what qualities should I imbibe to become a successful litigator.

The environment after coming from Court was very relaxing for half an hour and associates joked on some daily matters which made me laugh hard sometimes. During that time some fruits were brought into the office from some farms and were also offered to everybody, including me.

Best things

Best part of the internships is that it was very elevating and inspiring to hear from him that he is proud of me as an intern and would be looking forward to my Advocacy.

I remember one day when I had come back from the Court, Sir handed over me a book of Supreme Court Judgements asking me to read judgments that had recently came up.

I would quote him here “If you are working for justice then GOD is always with you“.

This internship is a must for every litigator who wants to understand how to balance out stressful life of a litigator while enjoying the work that you do.

It was an internship with one of the best service matter lawyers of Rajasthan. Service matters are the ones that are most prominent in Rajasthan. So, getting a catch-hold of such matters makes one an outstanding lawyer as the Sir himself was.

Bad things

Deep Experience.

Accommodation: how, where, how was it?

I live in Jaipur itself, so it was never a problem for me. But interns who come from outside can find PGs at a relatively cheaper cost at Murlipura or Vidyadhar Nagar.
