Accommodation: how, where, how was it?

I Resided in Dormitory on 3RD Floor of RLEK. I was lucky in this term because I was the only Boy living in the Dormitory with full privacy but usually there are 20 beds in boys dormitory and in summer vacation all beds get occupied by Interns.

For Girls they have a Dormitory on 2nd Floor of the building. This time we 7 students were residing in RLEK Dormitory out of total 30 interns.

It was very good because dormitory get cleaned every day and being a single male intern with full privacy was a great experience But don’t think every intern will get this privacy every time because it was by chance Only.

Food: They have a separate Kitchen for food and you will find it very good and very clean even all the workers and even the family of chairmen get the food from that kitchen only. You have to wash your utensils on your own.

Even High rank officials did that In RLEK during their visit. and lastly it is on the option of the interns if he/she wants to take up the food facility.

First impression. First day, formalities etc.

I met Arun sir and he Gave me a form to fill and asked to submit the bonafide certificate , 2 passport size photographs and one photocopy of Identity proof.

He gave me some books related to RLEK and work done by it in last four decades and every intern were expected to give the books back to sir on the last day.

Main tasks

I would divide Main tasks in three categories.

Typing and Translating work– In RLEK You will surely get a task related to Typing the material or to translate the same In English to hindi and vice-versa.

Even some of Interns got a task of Hindi typewriting and they learnt that very quickly, luckily I was not assigned with this work and given a simple work of typing.

Research work– This is the area I was waiting for and i was assigned with research project on Domestic Violence Act 2005, Right to Information Act, 2005, Right to Education act, 2002.

Each intern had to made a ppt which was given by Shweta mam and a presentations was taken by her. If you have zeal in you for research work then you have to go to Shweta mam and have to ask for more and more work.

Field work– This was the best part I encountered during my internship. RLEK Have many schools across the Uttrakhand and neighboring states. I went to one of their school in Dehradun Only and in the end we 3 interns got the chance to be part of the team for organizing pre-election camps at Panchayt level for village women for 3 days.

It was very risky as we went to 4 villages located on the top of the hills(12k feet) But it was fun and Learning one. we were assigned work related to report writing and got chance to interact with people of different cultures.

Work environment, people

Work environment was very homely and very friendly. They behave like a friend. People over there are very experienced and they know how to mix up with the interns even by nature they are excellent and treat interns like their own child and care for them.

Chairman Mr. Avdesh Kushal himselfiIs a great personality and a Padamshree award winner. So you can imagine with whom you are working with.

Best things?

RLEK=BEST THING. Yeah it seems like a math equation but it is a reality. No more words to explain RLEK. Even field work on the hilly villages was also the best thing.

Bad things?

The only Bad thing was that many time you might have to sit idle without any work and end up playing counterstrike and need for speed. If you want some work you have to go and ask the worker to assign you with some work.

What did you do to chill? Co-interns, colleagues

Near RLEK there are many malls and one can go there with co-interns to chill. For me chilling was to get the key of Damini mam vehicle and going out to Maggi point.

Stipend/ month

No Stipend

Anything else you’d like to tell

I have just Two Words to say “SECOND HOME”.

Biggest lessons

I learnt the basics of researching and the main thing “how to judge a person.”
