The Centre for Regulatory Studies, Governance and Public Policy (CRSGPP) at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS) intends to organise (on 25th November, 2017) a one-day orientation programme for faculty members teaching criminal law. CRSGPP will extend training and guidance to university/college teachers and researchers working in the field of criminal justice administration.
Who is it for
About 50 criminal law teachers from various law universities/colleges in West Bengal
will take part in the event.
Each university/college may nominate three/four participants accordingly.
Apart from the 50 university/college teachers, a few research scholars (maximum 20, to be decided on a first-come-first-served basis) enrolled in an MPhil/PhD course of a recognised university may also attend the programme.
At the end of the programme, Certificates of Participation will be issued to all participants. Certificates shall not be issued in absentia.
The main objectives of this orientation programme are to
(a) Critically focus on the pedagogical aspects of criminal law.
(b) Address teaching/research-related issues from a comparative as well as from an
inter-disciplinary perspective to unfurl newer insights with regard to the subject.
(c) Understand the effectiveness of the procedural and substantive laws, including
special laws, governing crimes and punishment.
(d) Look into the issues of admissibility of evidence, including scientific evidence.
(e) Streamline the relation between criminal law and public policy.
(f) Update the participants with the recent trends in criminal jurisprudence.
(g) Gauge the effectiveness of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, 2013.
(h) Facilitate productive discussions between the resource persons and the
teachers/researchers of criminal law.
(i) Help produce a teachers/researchers guide to criminal law.
How to Register
There is no registration fee either for the teachers or for the researchers.
Teachers need to register themselves through their respective institutions.
The researchers can seek registration by providing details such as
(a) Name of the Applicant (b) Name of the Institution (c) Name of the course (MPhil/PhD) (d) Contact Details of the Applicant (Postal Address, Mobile No. and E-mail), etc., and by mailing the same to firstname.lastname@example.org by Nov 21, 2017.
The subject line of the mail shall read “Researcher Application for Participation in the Orientation Programme.”
CRSGPP will automatically reject applications (from researchers) when the cap of 20 applications is reached.
