‘Behind every successful man is a woman’ is a popular saying but I beg to differ.
Behind every successful person is a teacher.
Behind Plato, There is Socrates. Behind Alexander, There is Aristotle. Name any successful person I can assure you that behind them there will be a teacher’s words of wisdom. Teachers have the power to create you and also to destroy you.
The person who made me what I am today is my revered teacher, Mr.Pushparaj Amin. Some people stay with you for a short while but leave a footprint in your life before they leave. A year ago, when I joined NCC aero modeling section, I must admit I was a nervous girl struggling to build my self confidence.
Low self esteem and inferiority complex had gnawed into me. Being the only girl in the aeromodelling section was not a cake walk. There were people who put me down with every opportunity available. But my sir stood by me. Every time I made a mistake He smiled.
There were days when I ended up making a wing of my model shorter than the other wing ruining 5000 Rupees worth Aero model kit. He patted me and told me to make as many mistakes as I want and learn from them. He called me experimental when others branded me stupid. He let me explore.
I bombarded my seniors and sir with questions, good ones and stupid ones.
When anyone else would have called me dumb and irritating, he called me inquisitive.
The day I left for The Vayu Sainik Camp, He told me”Dear, No matter what happens, where you go, keep asking questions. One day it will make you successful”. He filled me with confidence and optimism.
When I struggled in the camp competing with experienced aeromodellers, He told me to stay calm and enjoy the experience. He taught me that Tension never helps.
The best lesson I learnt from him is to let my actions speak louder than my words. He lived by what he preached. He taught me never to bow my head before anyone when I am right.
My teacher was with me for only a fortnight but I have learnt from him will stay with me forever.
The only message I have for my respected sir is that I am thankful to him for being my guru.
