Uttar Pradesh Human Rights Commission [UPHRC], Lucknow
So one basically needs to visit the official website of UP State Human Right Commission [Click HERE]. Now the website looks a little archaic, same as their office building, however, in order to intern there this is the procedure. So now you go to the internship section and guidelines for the internship are provided there.
You can intern with UPHRC either in December or in June.
These are the only two times they take interns and you need to apply two months prior to your period of internship. Along with the application, you need to send your CV and a letter of recommendation from the institute where you are studying. In case they select you, they will call you on a particular date and allot you a topic for your research.
Address – TC-34 V-1, Vibhuti Khand, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow
Duration of internship and timings
1st December, 2014 to 31st December, 2014
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
Beginning with the infrastructure, if you have really high hopes then this will probably turn you off. This building is jointly shared by UPHRC and UP State Commission for Women. It is mandatory to go there for the first time because you need to choose your topic for the research and inform them about it.
Probably, one should wear formals on that specific day as you will have to go and meet the chairperson so it is advisable to leave a good first impression.
My topic was “Child Health – Neglect, Cause and Concern”.
So in order to gather authentic information, I went to one of the slums in Lucknow to see what is the condition of children at the grassroot level with regard to education.
So basically one should be good at conducting surveys because that is the crux of the research work.
Work environment and people
There is no fixed office environment as I have already specified earlier.
The best part about interning with UPHRC is that you don’t have to go to office daily and can work from anywhere you like along with enjoying your vacations.
So, like I went to visit my grandmother at Agra so there I went to this school where children from the lower strata of the society study, that was also a good experience. Therefore its work with fun.
So those of you who love social work, this is the place.
For some of us who actually want to work in an office environment, this is not the ideal place. Once we get into law schools, we are pretty excited about internships where you think that you will get to do a lot of legal work, well this is not the place for you as there is hardly any legal work involved.
As I was always keen on learning something from the legal point of view, I didn’t find this place very apt, instead what it does is just add a socialistic perspective to my CV and nothing more.
