The application procedure for TRA is quite straightforward. An applicant is required to send in their CV to firstname.lastname@example.org along with a statement of purpose as to why they wish to work with the firm.
This is generally followed up by a telephonic interview with one of the partners of the firm. Both the CV and the interview are taken into consideration in ultimately deciding whether or not to offer you the internship.
Duration of internship and timings
TRA generally takes up interns for a period of three to four weeks.
Timings: 10 AM to 7 PM (Saturdays are working but Office hours end by 5 PM)
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
My first day at TRA began with a brief introduction to the firm by Mr. Anirudh Rastogi. He inquired what my areas of interest were and whether there was any particular kind of work that I wished to do.
This, for me, was one of the most remarkable characteristics of my internship as the work that I did during my stint with TRA was predominantly oriented towards the area that I had specified during my initial interaction with Mr. Rastogi.
Following this, I was set up at my desk and introduced to the rest of the team. We are permitted to use our own laptops in the office to complete any of the tasks assigned to us.
Research, drafting and assisting associates and the partners in clarifying any and all queries that a client may raise with respect to any matter. I was unfortunately interning during the Court holiday and therefore was not afforded the opportunity to assist them in Court.
They have a balanced corporate and litigation practice, where an intern will find himself/herself going to just as many agreements as he/she would judgments.
Work environment and people
The partners, Mr Anirudh Rastogi and Mr. Jitender Tanikella are extremely selective about the quality and work ethic of the people who work with them as they take painstaking efforts to train and guide their associates and interns in their assigned tasks.
This is complemented by a regular review system, which is used to evaluate your work as well as to identify areas where the interns can improve.
Both the partners and the associates of the firm are extremely approachable and make it a point to actively involve the interns in the day-to-day activities of the firm, giving them a hands-on experience of what it is like to work on matters pertaining to a wide range of legal issues.
They do not restrict the scope of an intern’s contribution to merely printing and photo-copying documents.
They provide avenues for interns to apply their mind and creative thought towards solving actual legal problems by making sure that they are always kept busy with challenging and intellectually stimulating work.
