Name of the organisation. City: Solomon and Company Advocates and Solicitors, Mumbai
How big was the office? Team strength? Around 30 lawyers
Application procedure: Apply to the internship in-charge Blaise Cutinho via e-mail email@example.com.
One can follow up through calls.
Duration in weeks. No. of days/week. Timings: 4 weeks. 10.30 AM to 6.30 PM
First impression. First day, formalities etc. On the first day I was introduced to one of the partners of the law firm Krishnan sir (who was earlier Legal Head, India at Vodafone and has now taken retirement).
He asked me where all I have interned previously and what are my areas of interest and how I got to know about the law firm.
Main tasks: Research work. A lot of research work and a lot of research work. And making briefs about case laws, finding case laws for the relevant matter of clients.
Researching relevant sections for the matters.
Watching proceedings at the Bombay High court whenever there was a court proceeding for the client’s matters.
Basically the internship was only legal research oriented and reading the documents of courts and coming out with solutions for the clients.
The internship had no writing task at all. the only writing task was when the Partner had asked me to write an article.
Work environment, people: People of the firm were really very friendly. At lunch there were interesting discussions.
Best things? I got to learn as there was lots of legal work. The firm also has an IPR boutique at Andheri, so if one is interested in IPR then he can apply there.
The partner at IPR boutique Mahua Roy Chaudhary is also listed among the top 50 lady lawyers in the country so it might be worth interning at IPR boutique.
Bad things? No writing tasks. On some days I had no work at all. May be it was my bad luck or what but most of the associates were on holidays as it was December so I could not get much work to do.
However my friend had interned there before me and he was full of work all the time.
What did you do to chill? I could step-down to have lunch or could order anything anytime from the restaurants at fort. Or I could go on the terrace for 10 min. if I was very tired of the work.
Stipend/ month Rs. 7500/month + free coffee/tea
Anything else you’d like to tell: For me it was like a free ka stipend internship, which I did not want for myself. But you might just be lucky and get good work.
Biggest lessons: Choose your internships very wisely or you could loose a month and not learn anything.
