Dehradun is considered a small town in comparison to big cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. It is true in terms of size but when it boils down to availability of opportunity, I would say it’s a case of typecasting a city. Honestly, even I shared the same view, until I interned with Rab and Rab Associates LLP during my summer vacations.
Internship at Rab and Rab Associates LLP, is an opportunity which, from a law student’s perspective, is a must as it enhances one’s grip over procedural law, governing both District and High Courts. In my opinion, procedural laws are that portion of our legal curriculum, towards which we don’t give much heed and consequently regret that in our future.
At Rab and Rab, interns are made to learn and apply procedural formalities of drafting, researching and even client counseling due to the presence of constant mentorship and guidance of its enigmatic partners, Ajar and Aman Sir.
The essential criteria of an intern or interns, to be eligible for such tremendous and responsible jobs, are his/her sincerity and tenacity, which gets reflected from the works that are offered to them in the initial phase of the internship. The Partners keep a keen eye on the behavior, seriousness, discipline and responsibility of the interns in dealing with the works assigned to them.
It doesn’t necessarily mean that one must be well versed in law to be allotted major works as there is no bar on one to ask or take help from the partners or the associates for the timely completion of the allotted work.
There is a strict formal dress code which needs to be followed by the interns. It doesn’t mandatorily require a fully suited-booted affair, but a bit of decency and formality is expected all the time. There have been instances where the interns have been unceremoniously fired because of their failure to comply with formal dress requirements.
Since the firm bears a non-compromising attitude towards dressing habits of the interns, the same applies to timely completion of the works allotted to the interns.
Since it was my 2nd internship with the firm, I faced no problem in adjusting to the work culture at the firm. I dealt with various types of cases, spanning across diverse fields of law, let alone civil and criminal law.
The firm offers research and drafting works on a very wide range of unique and unheard of legal domains, for example: once I was made to research upon Cosmetic Laws of Northern and Southern America, which was quite interesting and thought provoking. Technically the firm handles all kinds of cases, apart from usual civil and criminal issues, intellectual property rights, arbitration, consumer dispute resolution, international policy consultation, international law etc. are other specialized fields in which the firm deals and has excelled considerably.
The firm’s client base boasts of top notch industrialists, bollywood actors, actresses, directors, production houses politicians, educational institutions, social workers etc. across the nation. The overall internship experience at the firm has been indispensable, especially the exposure I received towards Litigation and Corporate work.
Not to mention, the ambient work culture along with the values of individual responsibilities that the firm nurtures, played a great part in expanding my legal acumen. Hence, I would suggest anyone who wishes to elevate his/her interest of litigation to a subsequent level of practical and additional knowledge in the field, kindly approach Rab and Rab Associates LLP, for an internship.
The firm pays a lump-sum stipend depending on the performance of the intern.
