Main tasks

On the very first day of our internship we interns were introduces to PSHRC, about its functions and how it work as well.

They told us about what we actually have to do in our upcoming four weeks.

As in the starting 2 weeks we have to do work in the office and the next 2 weeks we have to the field work of us own for the survey.

On the 2nd day of our intern , we interns were given a short training in which we were taught about how to deal and draft the complaints coming to the PSHRC.

They also get an quick practical of it as well as a test also.

From the 3rd day to the last working day of the 1st week we work on the complaints and applications coming to the PSHRC.

As we read them thoroughly and after examine properly we have to decide either the commission can take action in the complaint or application or not and draft it accordingly.

From the 2nd week, we were given a topic whom we have to prepare along with our group mates and have to give a presentation on it as well a debate is going on side ways.

In PSHRC, they also ask to go through the ongoing cases files as well as to the cases which are settled by the commission already so that we can closely learn about how the proceedings of the cases are done in the PSHRC.

On the last working day of the 2nd week we were given a list of topic to choose one for our survey.

So as team, we choose the topic of Water Supply and Water problems related to water in the different cities of Punjab State.

In the 3rd and 4th week, we go for our survey to the various cities of Punjab as to Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Phagwara, Moga, Zirakpur, Faridkot, Anandpur Sahib etc.

As we prepare a Questioner for our survey so it was very easy to know about the important facts.

Really I enjoy roaming in the cities of Punjab and meeting people as all welcome as with a warmth.

In the end of the 4th week we submit out report after proper analyzing of the survey.

We also get the guidance from the staff and members of the Punjab State Human Rights Commission continuously which make our work a ZERO tolerance during these four weeks.

Work environment, people

Punjab State Human Rights Commission give us a very favourable and courageous work environment.

In PSHRC, there are people who motivate you and fill enthusiasm in you regarding your work and this is the thing which make my every task so easy.

The best things & the bad things

The staff member of PSHRC is the best thing as they all are always helpful in all the way.

The 60% complaints which come to PSHRC are in Punjabi language. So it is difficult for those who don’t know reading Punajbi. For me this is the only bad thing in PSHRC.

No Stipend.

Accommodation etc. What did you to do chill in and around the office and the place of stay?

PSHRC do not provide any kind of accommodation so the interns have to make arrangement for it by themselves.

As PSHRC office is in Sector-34 and one can find an paying guest accomodation around this sector easily.

I take an Paying Guest accommodation in Sector-34 B, which cost me 6000 for an month with all three meals of the day.

As Chandigarh is known to as “City Beautiful” which exactly suit to it.

There are many good markets in the different sectors of Chandigarh so one can go for hangout there with friends. As well the punjabi food and the street food is always make your taste bud active.
