Application Process with contact details

In my first semester we were told to do internship in a NGO. Since I wanted to go in the best I asked my seniors and teachers, and honestly speaking I gave my reference to my teacher for applying there.

So, my college was also giving internships and so I went to them. I had to send my resume to the concerned teacher and they offered me Prayas Juvenile Aid Centre Society.

Duration of internship and timings

Duration of the internship:

4th June, 2016 – 4th July, 2016

Timings: 11:00 am to 4:00 pm

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

On the very first day, everybody had to report the head office of the NGO. So I was well dressed and prepared for the first day interaction. We were all supposed to be there by 9:30a.m and after getting together we all headed towards the destination.

Reaching there was convenient as the NGO is well known among people.

My first impression in mind regarding internship was very humanistic and professional and after looking the atmosphere of the place, my expectations were not to my satisfaction.

After reaching to the head office, we all were doing gossips and making a perception regarding the NGO and some presumptions of the tasks that they will be assigning to us.

The atmosphere of the place was well disciplined. The head office was an open shelter for the girls. Girls were offering prayer as morning assembly was going on when we reached there.

We all were told to sit in the head office and wait for a while till some official come. We were really honored with their sincere gratitude towards us. Finally the wait for the official was over.

We met the manager and then she took us to a conference room. There, we were told about the organization and were shown some video clips. Also we were asked about ourselves and our interests.

Later on we met to the controller of the head office. He clearly explained us about the organization, working areas, point of emphasize, achievements, funding, Governmental relations etc.

We all were shocked when he told us that the founder of the NGO is Mr. Shatrughan Sinha. After talking to them made us realize that yes it is a place where we can learn a lot.

After all these activities, we were called for the registration purpose and delegation of respective centers all over Delhi.

The process initiated with our residing locations, from where we will be coming. It was done so that they can delegate us day interaction.

We were asked about our preferences regarding the centers and fellow teammates and the centers were finally decided. The process took the whole day to be finalized with and was a hectic day.

Main tasks

Keeping our interests in mind our work manager divided us into groups. For four weeks we had to go and report to their open shelter which is known as “Sarai Pipal Thala”, Azadpur, New Delhi.

There we had to educate the children about hygiene, literacy, books and everything. We were also required to make them study because they all go to school.

We had to teach them. And in the end we had to organise a different curricular activities and a small party for them.

Work environment and people

Work environment and people in the NGO were very friendly, very easy going. Though the open shelter which was allotted to us. The children and the people working there made my job more easier and comfortable with their warm and friendly attitude.

Best things

The most satisfactory thing which I did there was educating the children.

I really liked that part of my internship when children at the place used to come to me and would ask for help in their studies and I enjoyed it.

Bad things

There was one disadvantage interning in a NGO that the work what they made us do was nothing close to law. Whatever we did just made us gain experience plus gave exposure.

Stipend

Biggest Lessons

Biggest lesson was that cherish whatever you have, because there are people who even don’t have what you have in your life. I learnt here was that even small help can change the world of the poor people.
