Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi
Name of the Firm
Office of Senior Advocate Mr. Mehmood Pracha Legal Axis Attorney & Solicitor, New Delhi.
Through my personal contact.
Duration of the Internship
The internship was four-weeks long; Monday to Saturday. Interns are supposed to report officially at 10 am, and could leave at 7 pm.
First Impression, First Day Formalities, Infrastructure
The office is big, well furnished & air-conditioned at one of the posh areas of Delhi , has a library, office cubicles and a kitchen too. The library is equipped with good books on a variety of areas of law and is regularly updated.
During the internship after court proceedings I made extensive use of the library and spent a substantial part of my internship after court in the library researching on various provisions of Criminal and Civil law.
On the first day I was told to report at the respective court according to the case and to study the case file before the hearing.
The main task was to observe the case proceedings in the Hon’ble Supreme Court, Hon’ble Delhi High Court, lower courts, Lokayukta and Central Administrative Tribunal. We were also given case files, legal notice, judgments to study and research. We also prepared the questionnaire for cross examination of a witness.
Work Environment and People
The environment provided in the office was very healthy and peaceful. The interns were provided a room where they could sit all by and study the case. After attending the court proceeding we were asked to report at the office where we used to study the case files and to do the assigned work. They also provided tea in the breaks.
Pracha Sir is an inspiring lawyer and social activist we learned a lot from his work. At our last day he provided his invaluable advice for our carrier and appreciated us for our work his associate R.H.A Sikander was extremely helpful and In spite of his busy schedule he was always there to guide us and solve our problems. The way he used to manage his work was very inspiring and motivating.
We got the opportunity to attend important and interesting case hearings like Sheila Dixit’s 2013 Graft Complaint and her Defamation Case, Delhi Serial blast case, case of disputed Karbala Land, Case where I.B’s constitutional validity was challenged and many others.
You don’t need to run around for your certificate. A reminder one day before you leave is sufficient. The learning experience combined with the relaxed environment makes it much easier to study lengthy matters. There is a brilliant work culture. Interns are treated really well.
