How big was the office? Team strength?
The office was decently big enough and pretty spacious along with a separate intern room, a conference hall and a lunch area.
The office has two departments- Litigation and Corporate, and the team strength is approximately 22-25.
Application procedure. Internship contact details
The application procedure is very simple. You send in an email with your resume to the partner, Mr. Haresh Jagtiani on firstname.lastname@example.org. I got my confirmation within two days.
It should be noted that the Email ID provided above will be useful only for those who want to intern under Litigation sector. For Corporate department: you can call there and ask for the same.
Duration in weeks. No. of days/week. Timings.
Four weeks. Five days a week. 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. All Saturdays are off for interns. An hour long lunch break is given in the afternoon.
The timings are quite flexible. By prior permission, one may even leave early in case of some work. Working beyond office hours is not the norm for interns and it rarely happens.
First impression. First day, formalities etc.
I had a pleasant and warm experience on the first day. There were no formalities as such except a casual, cursory introduction. The office maintains a register of interns for the purpose of attendance.
The Litigation department head then introduced all the interns to the partner, Mr. Jagtiani.
As mentioned earlier, the office is pretty flexible with the interns. There is no such hard and fast rule that an intern is required to work under only one associate. He may take work from anyone he wishes. But usually, the Litigation department head gives work to all the interns.
It is mostly research based work, along with clerical tasks at times. Sometimes, the intern may also accompany an associate to the court proceedings. However, there is not much work pressure.
All the interns are also required to submit a write-up and prepare a Power Point presentation on any topic, either of their choice or as recommended by an associate.
At the end of the internship, the intern presents the prepared PPT before the partner, all the associates and interns; who later give their feedback on the same. Also, if the write up impresses the legal team, the same may be published on the firm’s website.
Work environment, people
The atmosphere is very healthy and chilled out. Mostly, all the associates are quite young, upbeat and spirited. The lunch hour is usually the time to socialize, though the friendly banter continues throughout the day. All the people are too cordial and social.
It’s the best place for fresher’s who wish to begin with internship. The friendly nature of the associates helps us in gelling and adjusting to the office environment easily. The timings are reasonable and flexible.
The associates never get on the nerves of the intern. The spacious infrastructure and a separate intern room are also the good things. Moreover, there’s also an easy access to the office kitchen, where interns can even make maggi and use the microwave.
We don’t need to run around for our certificate. A reminder two days before the internship ends is enough. And of course the stipend is an icing on the cake.
Since the work is mostly confined to searching of case laws, after a point it becomes really monotonous to continue with the same stuff.
Moreover, the associates just directly dump the work, without decent explanation, in case one has a doubt.
However, overall there is nothing bad as such.
What did you do to chill? Co-interns, colleagues
An evening walk in Ballard Estate in the soothing weather and breeze just relieved all the day’s tension. Apart from it, there is marine drive to chill out.
For food, there is Brittania, Model café and street-side sandwich and snacks shops. The co-interns were also friendly and warm.
Stipend / month
The stipend is performance based.
Although there is no work pressure as such, but if one wishes to learn and work, it is the right place with the right people. It is very apt for the beginners.
