National Green Tribunal, New Delhi, around 25 people

Application Process with contact details

For applying in National Green Tribunal, we need to visit its office at Copernicus Marg (India Gate Circle) in Delhi.

There we need to visit the Administrative Office and get our application approved. We need to provide our CV, a recommendation letter from our respective colleges mentioning the duration of internship and also a cover letter which may be hand – written and the content of which may be written after asking the people in the office.

Finally we need to submit our complete application in the Filing Room on the ground floor.

Duration of internship and timings

I interned there from 1 July, 2016 to 30 July, 2016.

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

The very first day, all the interns were told to write a letter and submit it accordingly. This is it for the first day formalities. Then we were summoned by the Deputy Registrar Ma’am who gave us certain tasks to do.

The overall first day impression was good. The infrastructure is nice. All the interns are told to sit in a non – functional court room. The place has an average canteen.

Main tasks

We had to write a synopsis for each day that we spent in NGT. Synopsis is kind of a summary of the case including all its aspects. For making a synopsis, we were supposed to take any file from the record room and summarize its contents.

This was an individual task. We were also assigned group tasks wherein we were supposed to research about a given case and then submit our findings. Apart from this we were also allowed to sit in the court proceedings.

Work environment and people

The work environment was not very serious. We could do all the work in one day or do nothing at all on several days.

Although the student crowd around me was very good. There were hard working and knowledgeable students.

Best things

According to me, the single best thing was attending court room proceedings. We get a first hand experience in how a court functions and how do judges pronounce a verdict.

I also saw lawyers pleading and arguing. There were times when the court room was filled with people due to some of the crucial cases going on at that time.

Bad things

I think that I did not get to learn as much as I expected from this big an institution. There was very less work to do which led to a very casual approach amongst all the interns.

Stipend

None

Biggest Lessons

After seeing the original applications filed by people, I got an idea on how an application is filled and its content. Also, there was significant boost in experience from watching all those court proceedings.

Accommodation

I live in Delhi only so I did not need any kind of accommodation. Just so you know, NGT does not provide any sort of accommodation facilities. The people who came from other states had stayed at their relative’s house.

Office Timings

The official timing were from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. We were supposed to sign our attendance twice – when we arrive and when we leave. However, we were always free to come and go at whatever time.

Also, it was open for 6 days a week for interns. Although no court proceedings occurred on Saturdays.
