First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
The first day I was asked to report to the office at 10 am. When I reached the office everyone was quite occupied with work so I had to wait for a while. Then there was an orientation programme where the interns where informed about the organisation and the people who work in the organisation. Then we were given a list of books to read and a list of documentaries to watch.
On my first day and the week that followed all I did was read as many books as I could.
In Majlis, I got an opportunity to draft petitions. I collected data and analyzed them for research purpose. I also read a lot of cases on maintenance and domestic violence and wrote case summaries and order summaries. I did some research work and attended conferences and workshops. I visited NGOs across the city with regards to the legal aid programme that Majlis is organizing.
I also helped in drafting a sexual harassment at workplace policy for an organization and a child abuse policy for another. Other things I did include, reading books and articles, watching documentary films and discussing them with seniors in the office.
Work environment and people
The best thing about the place was the people working in the office. They were very supportive and encouraging.
There was always some kind of discussion going on in the office on topics ranging from women rights issues to movies and food. The office had a very vibrant environment.
It was a very nice experience. It was very different from my other internships because I got to read a lot. There were a lot of discussions in the office about women’s rights issues. Every Thursday there was a meeting in the office where everyone would sit down and talk about their week. To hear from lawyers about their court experiences and the communication team about the campaigns was something interesting. It was a very enriching experience which taught me the different dimensions of women’s rights advocacy.
No Bad things as such.

There cannot be revolution in the world outside until there is a revolution in the world within. Being a part of Majlis Legal Centre has helped me in bringing about the revolution at an individual level. Maybe this is only a foundation for a large scale revolution that we can bring to the world, someday. But one thing is certain. At the end of this journey, I am not the same person I walked in.
Majlis does not provide with accommodation. I lived in a PG in Goregaon. But I would recommend not to take a PG so far away from office because commute becomes a problem then.
10 am to 7 pm.
They are quite strict about the timings.
