First impression, first day, formalities

I liked the people. This is possibly the first internship in my 4 years worth of internships that I absolutely liked each and every one in the firm.

They are friendly, they give you good work, they explain concepts, they don’t think you are a piece of dirt (unlike certain other law firm associates), they talk to you kindly, they involve you in discussions and most of all they are considerate.

Everyone eats their lunch together in the conference room and the discussions almost always border on hilarious and are otherwise very informative. (I have snorted more food up my nose during this internship, then I would have if I was trying to do it on a dare).

My suggestion – Read the Newspaper every morning at least during the duration of this internship, it will improve the content of whatever you contribute to the conversation.

There are no first day formalities. Enter office. Meet the people. Get assigned a seat. Then get assigned work. Then do it. Take it from me – YOU WILL LIKE THE PEOPLE!

Main tasks

There aren’t teams to be assigned to, but you will asked the area you are interested in and work will be given accordingly, unless, there is an overflow.

I was asked to draft a few Evidence by way of Affidavits and I was given Case law Researches and Provisions Searches. I worked on Securities Law and allied RBI and FEMA norms, Arbitration, Company Law, Tax Law, Contract Law, Investment Law, Property Law, Criminal Law, Civil and Criminal Procedural Law and Labour Laws, majorly.

You will be assigned a presentation topic in the first or the second week, on which you will have to present on, in your last week.

Work environment, people

Work Environment, I have been referring to on and off in this review. It is for-lack-of-a-better-word “Chilled’. And at the cost of sounding too repetitive, people are good.

One day I was taken by the associate for a treat on the way back from AAIFR, another time Sir ordered food for lunch. One time there was a surprise dessert with lunch. (It may not seem much, to some people, maybe, but after the monsters I have faced in my past internships this was a dream job)

All this along with super helpful associates, good work and no compulsion – this internship is rated VERY HIGHLY.

The best things AND the bad things

The Best thing is the chilled atmosphere. There is a deadline and it is strict, but nobody will sit on your head while you work.  There is a inner sense of duty in that office. The associates will laugh and chat and gather around to hear a joke, but at the end of the day, EVERYONE sticks to their deadlines.

There isn’t much to criticize about except that I absolutely hate submitting my research printed on fresh sheets. What if it is useless? What if you need to make minor changes? WHAT IF anything.. Pardon me if I am getting a little extremist, but, I hated internships where they wouldn’t let us print anything.. and I surely did not like having to print EVERYTHING. (Case researches, Provisions, Drafted documents et al)

No stipend.

Accommodation etc. What did you to do chill in and around the office and the place of stay?

There are PGs available in East of Kailash and Lajpat Nagar very easily. The office is very close to the Kailash Colony metro station so any accommodation connected by metro should be convenient.
