VNS Legal is a corporate law firm based out of Chennai. They provide specialized legal advisory services in the area of corporate laws, capital market regulations & foreign exchange. It is headed by V N Shiva Shankar, Advocate, and supported by a number of associates.
To apply as an intern, one should first send a mail to email@example.com for which the response will be very quick. Then an appointment must be fixed to meet Shiva Shankar Sir.
He will interview you which is not necessarily a very strict or a formal one. Me being a first year student, knew very little about legal subjects but was hopefully selected.
The people over there were very friendly. Sir actually was very understanding and told a senior employee in that firm to take care of me and he thus allotted work for me and clarified my doubts regarding the areas under which I worked at.
I worked there for almost 4 weeks starting from may 1 2013. It was a one month internship. The office timings were from 10 to 6. Saturday was a half working day and Sunday was a holiday.
For the first three days, the basic features of a contract, agreement and other aspects of legal drafting were taught. I was asked to go through some drafted contracts and agreements, the clauses used, the way in which they were framed and all.
Then from the fourth day, I was asked to draft small, basic contracts and some franchise agreements. Apart from this, research works were also given to me sometime.
There will be two tea breaks and one lunch break during a day.
There will be no stipend provided, but a certificate for internship will be given.
There were about five to six people working in a particular cabin and a system will be provided to each.
The atmosphere was very conducive to work and the overall learning experience was great.
Though I was not taught the subject Law of Contracts in my first year, I was still able to draft a few and it made my learning in the college very easy.
People over there were very friendly and were happy to help which boosted my interest to a greater extent. For corporate law, I would say that VNS legal is the best place to choose.
