Name & Description of the organization
Ungender Inc – Gender and Labour Laws Compliance Advisory
4 weeks ( May 2018)
I mailed my CV along with a short cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org . I was then asked to submit a 1000 word write-up on a specific topic. After few days, my internship was confirmed.
About the internship
Internship at Ungender is not like your regular law firm / litigation/ NGO internship. Ungender is a lot of things- It is an advisory firm with corporates as their clients, it is connected to a non profit arm which works to create awareness about sexual harassment law in unorganized sector and it is a blog with focus on content creation for issues where gender acts as a discriminatory factor.
They also use tools like RTIs and PIL to check the compliance of sexual harassment act in different sorts of workplaces. To sum up, they are trying to make this society a bit less gendered- and as an intern the most you will get out of this internship is satisfaction of contributing your bit to their grand scheme of things.
Things I learned
- The entire procedure of filing Right to information applications – online and offline.
- Usage of interfaces like WordPress and Wix.
- Researching and writing blog posts on issues like sexual harassment and safety laws for women.
- Managing the Ungender Blog – publishing posts, selecting pictures, ensuring a proper layout etc,.
Apart from the above mentioned tasks, an intern can learn a lot through just informal conversations with Pallavi Ma’am and Esha Ma’am. Both of them have a lot of experience in this field and they are very particular about interns. Write ups are regularly reviewed and constructive feedback is given. They make you feel important and you start feeling that you are also working for a cause.
The work load is decent. You cannot while away your time when you are at Ungender. Regular assignments with reasonable deadlines are given . The work hours are from 10am – 7pm. They are concerned about the safety of their interns so you will never be asked to stay back in office, but you are expected to finish the assigned task before next working day. Saturday and Sunday are off so you get decent amount of time to rejuvenate yourself.
None. They give an opportunity to some selected interns to work from home/college after the period of internship is over. The continued work is in form of paid assignments.
