Application Process

You can directly approach the office for an internship and they are quite responsive.

Duration of internship and timings

15 days. The timing for the firm was 9.30 am to 5.30 pm, 5 days a week. Sometimes you may need to visit some places during weekends too. However, the timings are flexible.

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

The first impression reminds you of a government office. There aren’t any first day formalities as such as we had to kick start our internship on the very first day.

The building for TNSLSA is near the High Court and hence there is an easy access to the High Court and hence there is no difficulty in finding a good place to eat.

Main tasks

Although the internship was just for 15 days, it touches upon a great variety of aspects related to free legal aid. Every single day was useful as we had a different job on every single day.

We were allowed to about the front desk, helpline, counselling sessions and all the staff were extremely friendly and you can get hands on experience at these.

Further, we had a visit to the Juvenile Justice Board, Observation Home, Children’s Home, Institute of mental health, senior citizens home and various centres for women.

All these were really fascinating as being a law student, we never get to see the reality and the pain of the people below the poverty line and this internship was very fruitful in understanding the reality of the society.

We also got to see the Lok Adalat and mediation at the District Legal Services Authority which is in the adjacent building.

To top it all, we had visits to the Puzhal Jail for the prison adalat and also on the day of parade. It was a great experience to see the prisoners and help them through legal aid.

The sum it up, the major task given to us was to see how the legal aid is effective in reaching the people who need it the most and make a report on the same.

Work environment and people

The work environment is very friendly!

The office people are very co-operative and help you with anything you want.

Best things

An entry to all the above mentioned places is never going to be this easy without the help of TNSLSA. The bitter truth and struggle the society goes through can be felt through this internship.

And you will never regret doing this as this would be the best of all internships that you can do!

There is no stipend and this is clearly mentioned when you join.

Biggest Lessons

When we fly high, we always can forget that we started from the ground. It is overwhelming that law and justice has not reached a major part of the society who are in dire need of it.

LSA is doing a great job!
