3 weeks. Works 6 days/week. 10am – 6pm
I had a flat in Chennai and so It was easy for me
First impression. First day, formalities etc.
The first day started with Ramana sir introducing other associates in office and I was told to feel comfortable to ask anything about the work and he also briefed me on the office environment and work culture. The team was very welcoming.
Firstly my choice of work was on indirect taxes and so I was given certain case files to read upon which were pending before IT appeals and CESTAT and I was also asked to research on certain cases on service tax.
I was asked to write an article on National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and present the same, which I did accordingly.
The best part was that the team was actually listening to me and taking down notes of my presentation, which totally motivated me.
Remember that you are expected to take initiatives to ask upon more work and finish it on time. You can always ask any doubt that comes across your mind during your work and the team responds swiftly.
I was also given a memorable opportunity to attend a meeting on GST where the city’s top lawyers were present, though I was the only student/participant there, it was totally worth.
An excellent and ideal place to intern, they have good books to refer.
Mr. Ramanakumar runs the firm and he has been a chartered accountant for two decades and has worked with KPMG earlier.
Mr. Harish and Ms. Jalpa are the associates in the firm, very kind and helping. In fact they clarified most of my doubts and sweet lawyers to work with.
The best thing was the variety of tax work the firm overtakes. They deal with almost everything in tax, both domestic and international.
One of my best moments was a detailed talk with Ramana sir where he was explaining me about the legal profession and the ethics to be followed as a lawyer, inspite of his busy schedule he has his own time for interns, where he absolutely motivates you and make you realise your potential, which I doubt any other lawyer would do.
Everything was perfect and your non co-operation would make your internship bad.
What did you do to chill?
Well, discussion with associates and there was no much pressure to chill out.
I was the only intern during the time and inspite of my untimely application they agreed to offer me the internship
No stipend , your learning here pays off.
I would recommend students who wants to specialize in tax practice to definitely intern in Ovopax, this is a great place to start your learning.
Ramana sir’s talk with me and his knowledge on what he does was truly inspiring and motivating.
Do not waste your time and know your interest area and choose the right people to learn from.
You might find out your interest area in your last year at least, never too late, learn from the best.
