First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

There are no formalities at all. Though one is obviously expected to be well behaved. No dress code is expected as it is a NGO.

First impression is mainly upon the main center head who will ask you to maintain a daily report of your work and that report will be checked before you leave the internship and based on that report the internship certificate will be provided to you.

Infrastructure is not very great. But the place is clean and nice and located in the heart of the city with no travel difficulties at all. There is a big library for research as well which is all time accessible to the intern.

Main tasks

As a 1st year student, nothing much was expected and the work load wasn’t much. One is supposed to go through past cases and understand how a complaint is filled at grass root level.

For every case you read, a summary is to be made in your report which will be submitted at the end of the internship to the center head. As field work, the NCHSE head sends interns to consumer forum and district courts for court proceedings.

Work environment and people

Work environment is very calm and peaceful. There is no hurry in the work. One is given separate room which is combined with the room of center head. The colleagues are extremely nice and guide you in a very nice manner.

Best things

You cannot just fake it. One learns a lot of things. Filing of a complaint under TRAI regulations and different consumer disputes, how are they handled before any suit goes to the court. As the certificate is connected to the daily report, one has to work and time cannot be just wasted.

A fully updated library helps a lot in research work. A 3 day pass to civil court for watching the court proceedings was a great experience.

Bad things

There is a lack of guidance

No stipend

Biggest Lessons

Working with an NGO makes you realize how you are connected to the society and how problems are dealt with on the very basic level. Working from 11 am to 5 pm is a tough task when you have to work for your very own survival. It’s plain work. One isn’t expected to be all funny in the office.

All in all, it is a great place to learn and develop your research abilities.
