First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

The Law offices of India office is located in Anand Niketan and can be easily reached by bus.  The office in itself spreads over 2 floors with separate chambers of the partners, pantry, conference rooms and work stations for associates and interns. I was given a desk and PC to work as an intern.

On the first day, the HR Ashim Sir welcomed me and explained me the formalities to be completed before beginning my work. He is one of the friendliest persons to come across.

The firm has excellent infrastructure consisting of a spacious workspace, good IT infrastructure with access to manupatra.

The firm also has an impressive collection of books where one can get a wide range of books. Also there is a pantry with coffee/tea machine.

Main Tasks

The firm deals with litigation of  various kinds of cases in areas such as consumer disputes, debt recovery matters, copyright, trademark, civil disputes, property suit, etc. Generally a senior partner assigns work to the intern but other associates of the department also provide works depending on the workload and availability.

Work included research, preparation of notes on various topics, preparing summaries of arguments and list of dates, case law search, drafting notices and letters, etc.

The most unique learning experience for an intern is to be present at various arbitration and mediation proceedings.

As an intern, you are to attend court sessions at Delhi High Court, Civil courts and tribunals such as Consumer Forums, etc. I had the opportunity to prepare and attend various cross examination sessions and also had the opportunity to attend client counseling sessions.

Working in the firm is not only informative but also interactive and provided a very practical aspect of law and its application.

Work environment and people

This was my first internship in the capital so I was scared and apprehensive of what might happen, right from day one I must say the atmosphere was friendly. The senior partners not only gave work but also provide with guidelines on how to go about it.

The Managing Partner, Ms. Alkanshree Dahar is one of a kind as she is confident yet humble. In my entire internship career I have never come across any senior who is as encouraging and enterprising. She made me feel as if my hard work counts and is helpful to the firm. Her clear instructions and guidance all through made me work to the fullest of my potential.

She appreciates even the smallest of efforts given by the interns. The experience of seeing her during arbitration and mediation is something I will treasure for a lifetime as she is brilliant at it.  Her mentorship has not only shaped me as a future lawyer but also as a human being.

The senior partners and associates were always there whenever I needed help. The work environment is friendly yet professional and this makes working in Law Offices of India a joyful experience.

Best things

The firm provided me with quality work of numerous high profile companies and the opportunity to attend various sessions at the High Court and other Courts and Tribunals. The work gave me exposure to several areas of Law and the litigation aspect of such laws. I had the opportunity of drafting and documentation of various cases, doing research and attending arbitrations and was appreciated for my work.

The department ensures that work is reviewed simultaneously and at times you can approach any associate for help.

Finally the behavior of every co-worker made me feel like an associate and not merely an intern.

Bad things

Law Offices of India has enriched me and to find any fault is almost impossible but the difficulty I faced is that there are no cheap food joints available near the office so it’s better to pack your tiffin.

The firm provides no stipend.

Overall Rating

9.5 out of 10.

I lived near Malviya Nagar which not very far from the Office. Cheaper accommodations are also available at Munirka Village.
