Internship Experience @ Advocate RP Chaudhary, District Court, Haryana {s}
Name of Organisation, Location, Team Strength
Advocate RP Chaudhary, Karnal District Courts, Karnal, Haryana.
Application Process
I got it through a contact. The lawyer doesn’t accept interns usually.
Duration of internship and timings
1 month in January 2014. Timings were from morning 09:30 to 4:30-5:00 in the evening.
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
Having interned under Delhi’s lawyers, MP’s and organizations before, I wanted to see what a small district practice looks like. The lawyer had a chamber in the District Court of Karnal and I reached there around 9:20 am on the first day.
I was asked to sit and wait for the lawyer by the clerk. I was then served water and tea to make up for the waiting period. Sir came to chamber around 10:15 and introduced me his practice.
Then around 11 we left for the court room as he had a case and I attended the court proceedings for the entire day.
Main tasks
Main tasks included checking case statuses, filing cases, witnessing proceedings, pass-overs sometimes, drafting of notices to an extent and reading case files.
Work environment and people
Sir had one clerk and one more junior working for him. People were all very nice and even Sir was very helpful and ready to help whenever in need.
Best things
He has a good practice in the Karnal District and it was a good learning experience overall.
Stipend
None
Biggest Lessons
The roots of the High Court cases are in the State’s district courts. More learning, though smaller place and money.
