How big was the office? Team strength

Under Mr Shyam Dewani and his wife Rajeshree Dewani, there were 5 associates, clerks and other staff.

The associates dealt with court work and the staff were engaged in clerical work, drafting of documents etc.

Application procedure. Internship contact details.

You should apply atleast  2-3 months prior, by sending an email at After I applied I got a confirmation email from them. However an intimation is required to be given to them a few days prior to your starting date.

Since I am from Nagpur, accommodation was not a problem for me. However many PGs are available in Sadar for those from outside Nagpur.

First Impression. First Day. Fomalities

At my very first day, I was introduced to Mr Shyam Dewani and his wife Rajeshree Dewani, both of whom are lawyers. Rajeshree Dewani Maam guided and supervised me throughout my internship.

First day included analyzing some of the case files and a formal introduction to everyone at the office. There were no formalities. Tea/coffee was also provided in the office.

Main Tasks

During my internship, I was given a lot of cases and legal documents to read and scrutinize. Also, if I had any difficulty in comprehending something related to my work, I could approach Rajeshree Maam and get my queries solved.

Apart from the theoretical aspect of law, I also got an opportunity to experience it practically. This was possible because I accompanied Rajeshree Maam and the associates to District court as well as High court.

I witnessed the court proceedings and learnt a great deal from them relating to the procedural part. It was truly an enriching experience to see how the courts function.

Work Environment and people

The work environment was very congenial. It was also welcoming in nature. This was possible because people in the office as well as at court were very helpful.

They also listened to all of my queries patiently (even though some of them were silly which I do realize now). The work environment, though professional was at the same time very friendly.

Best Things

1. It gave me an exposure to the practical aspect of law which I am sure will go a long way and also help me in my future internships.

2. It also taught me to be more disciplined

3. Since I am in 2nd year and have not really studied law subjects I also got some basic knowledge of Indian Penal Code, Indian Contract Act and some other acts of law.

Bad Things

Since it was my first internship, I enjoyed every bit of it. I have nothing to complain of, regarding my internship.

What did you do to chill

Inspite of our busy schedules, I along with other co-interns managed to have fun. We went to have lunch to nearby food joints. Having snacks outside the court was also a lot of fun.

Internship at Dewani and Associates was without any stipend.
