No employee assists you in any work, its basically working totally by yourself which does not facilitate any type of learning.
Name of the organisation. City. Office Address. How was the office? Team strength.
Child Rights and You (CRY). New Delhi. 632, 2nd floor, Lane No.3, Westend Marg, Saiyad-ul-Ajaib, Saket.
The office seemed good considering it was an NGO. If we restrict the discussion of the team strength to just our mentors and my co-interns who worked on the same project, 6. Otherwise there are a lot of people.
Duration of internship
18th June – 31st August
Application procedure? Internship Contact Details
Might be different for other colleges, our college had an institutional partnership with the organisation, so just had to send in a form with personal details and views on certain things. The link for the form is HERE.
Contact Details: Through email, contact Mrs. Leena Prasad at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Duration in weeks. Days of work per week. Timings.
Six weeks. Monday-Friday. 10 AM – 5 PM (on paper, otherwise, depends from day-to-day).
First impression, first day, formalities.
First impression was not very great. Seeing the application form was impressed since it wanted to see what you really thought and believed in, rather than considering your capabilities seeing your marks. However, after submitting our forms, did not get any communication of receipt also.
Got a call several days after having applied. Got an acceptance at such a time that the option for joining any other internship would not have been there, if I had not been accepted. I had applied for four weeks of internship. I was informed just a day before I was to travel to my hometown for two weeks, that six weeks is mandatory in the organisation and thus had to cancel all arrangements and start the next day itself.
First day was average. Was just given an introduction in a Power Point about the organisation. The information contained in it was mostly such which was already available on their website: www.cry.org. Some things were new though. I was sent home after that.
Formalities were not too many. Had to just send in an e-mail mentioning the dates for my internship and that I had accepted the offer. Also, had to sign the offer letter and submit it. Not much of a hassle.
Field visits to learn about the various nuances of the functioning of Right to Education (no CRY employee accompanies you on that, do it yourself)
Heading a Mass Enrollment Programme (which was in partnership with Hindustan Times) in different areas of Delhi (again no CRY employee accompanies you on that generally)
Was given a Mid-Day Meal Scheme Research (which did not happen due to lack of any support)
Data Entry (at times)
Prepare a proposal for a research to be conducted on the working of an organisation
Deliver letters/reports/invitations to people
Work environment, people
Work environment was pretty chilled. Some people were really friendly. Others didn’t interact as such.
The best things AND the bad things
Best things were the field visits prior to the Mass Enrollment Programme having started. Got to learn a a lot about the actual implementation of the Right to Education. Helped get a clear understanding of its various nuances. Also visited various places like Anganvadis etc. which was a new experience.
Bad things were many. Did not expect it to be like this from such a reputed organisation. Many days the mentors themselves did not turn up for work, did not inform before hand and eventually blamed us for non-completion of work (for which they had to be present to guide us).
No employee assists you in any work, its basically working totally by yourself which does not facilitate any type of learning (except for
field visits where you learn by interacting with people). Unless you are assertive, handed over data entry work sometimes. Told certificate would be given half a year later when we have a presentation in the college.
No. Was told field visits are reimbursed, hasn’t happened till now though. But I think that will happen.
Accommodation etc. What did you to do chill in and around the office and the place of stay?
Stayed a little far off from the office at my relative’s place. Select City Mall is close by so went there sometimes with co-interns when free. Can watch movies, shop or dine there.
