Duration of internship and timings
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
On my first day, I was given a desk to work at and later I met with one of the members. I was asked about my college, what all laws i have studied till now and other general questions.
I was asked to read the Protection of Human Rights Act and understand its provisions in detail.
I was given files of ongoing cases and was asked to make notes on them.
I was also given complaints that were rejected by the Commission, in order to better understand the various grounds if rejection.
We also had discussion sessions with the members from time to time, where we discussed causes of human rights violation, the various provisions of law used during the case procedure, and so on.
Work environment and people
The work environment was very chilled, mainly because it was the month of May and the courts were closed.
The people who worked there were so kind.
And the interns were given tea and biscuits everyday, before we left from work.
The best thing was probably the work environment. If you are a first year student then you should try for an internship here.
The only bad thing was the hit weather of the month if May and the lack of AC in the office.
Human rights violation cases are tricky and not as simple as one may imagine.
It is good to be sympathetic towards a person’s cries, but we need to be objective in order to understand what the law is saying.
I stayed at home with my parents.
Office timings were from 9:30 to 2:00 for the interns and it was quite relaxed.
