Duration of internship and timings
4 weeks; May – June, 2013.
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
I was introduced to Neetu ma’am, the Centre Coordinator who briefed me about the project the research wing was working on.
As the ongoing project then was on food insecurity, I had to –
a) Research on that issue;
b) Find the statutory regulations of other nations to tackle food insecurity;
The work was mostly research-based. I would sit at the NLS library everyday to research on the tasks for that day.
I also had to undertake a field trip to a village in north Karnataka and conduct surveys at the household level to gauge the nutritional security and health status of the local residents.
Work environment and people
As most of the research was carried out in the library, I had limited interaction with the members.
However, they are very supportive and help and encourage the interns whenever required.
I had access to the NLS library which is pretty much fabulous. After I was done with my work, I would, at times, peruse some books at the library. One could use this spare time to enrich their knowledge or make use of the resources to write papers.
One could also go home early if the tasks of the day were submitted.
I would call this internship a stepping stone as it was my first internship – it exposed me to legal research. Due to the project initiatives I undertook, i was also exposed to the socio-economic problems that plague the country.
