I had sent an email with a covering letter and CV to firstname.lastname@example.org
Duration of internship and timings
15th June, 2013 – 15th July, 2013
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
The firm is situated in one of the best localities in Delhi. The office is on the ground floor and the infrastructure is quite impressive as the office was recently made.
On the first day I was told to meet the two partners of the firm rest no other formalities.
The office is near to Mandi House Metro Station so connectivity is not an issue.
As I was in the first year and it was my first internship I didn’t get much work to do. I was given case files to read and understand the cases. I did research on certain laws and even drafted a legal document with the help of an associate. I was also given the opportunity to attend Dwarka District Court and the proceedings at the Consumer Forum as well.
Work environment and people
The work environment was quite relaxed and the associates were very friendly and helpful. As it was my first internship I was very well guided by all of them and even the partners used to interact and kept a note of my progress and understanding.
The best thing was the relaxed and friendly environment and the ease to approach the associates.
There was nothing bad as such about my experience with the firm.
No stipend for any intern as such but one of my fellow interns was given a small amount as a token of appreciation for her work.
This was my first practical experience and I understood how things actually work. How a case is researched and drafted, what all formalities are required to file a case, etc.
The biggest lesson would be that I will always advice all the first year students to intern at a firm where the people are helpful so that you understand the practical aspects of Law and make your base strong.
Any Other Thing
Firms like AVA are the best places to intern in your first year where you can easily approach the associates and the partners. They were always helpful and supportive. This gave me a lot of confidence. There was no dearth of work if you want to learn.
