Roles & Responsibilities
The work involved various assignments on arbitration matters. I was given to draft a reply in an on-going arbitration matter. I was given research propositions on various points in arbitration law.
I got to witness arbitration proceedings in two matters, on three of the dates. While arbitration proceeding were going on in one matter, I was expected to take down detailed notes of the proceedings, and later submit them to Ma’am. This really helps in understanding the arguments, rather than just observing the proceedings. I also got to witness recording of witness-statements in one matter.
Besides arbitration matters, I also got to work on some consumer cases. The work involved drafting evidence-by-way of affidavits. I also worked on a matter that Ma’am had at N.G.T.
The unique and best part about interning with Ma’am is that interns are expected to work like associates. The work that is assigned to an intern is at par with any associate. You are as responsible for your work as an associate would be for theirs, and this brings a sense of responsibility and helps develop professionalism. Sincerity and dedication is expected from an intern.
Ma’am is very encouraging when it comes to allowing interns to attend court proceedings. Witnessing Ma’am arguing before the court or in any arbitration proceeding itself is a learning experience. The amount of research and hard work Ma’am puts in her work is incredible, and therefore she expects the same from everyone working at her office, including interns.
I did not need to take an accommodation as I used to travel from my home. However, P.G.s are available in Lajpat Nagar, again at walking distance, where two of my co-interns were also staying.
