Duration of Internship and Timings

1 month.

Reporting time was 09:00 hours, we were allotted a project which was mainly field work.

However, Internship hours per week was 12 hours.

First Impression, First Day Formalities and Infrastructure

The NGO carried its activities in a basement where slum kids would come and study and play, and another room where vocational activities took place.

My first impression abut the NGO was that even if it is a small place, they are doing a good job here.

It was impressive.

The first day was mainly an interactive session, where we were told about the various projects taken up by the NGO, how it works and how did it come up.

Main Tasks

Our main task was Student interaction and Field Project.

We taught the kids who come from the underprivileged strata of the society, interacted with them, played with, conducted various activities for the kids.

We were divided into a group of 3-5 people, and we had to prepare a report on different topics. My group had the project of “Girl Child Protection and Adoption”.

We went to the sums around the area, interacted with the people there.

Work Environment and People

Work environment was good and friendly.

The slum kids were also comfortable with the staff and were open to them.

Even their staff looked pretty enthusiastic about dealing with these kids.

The kids were given free lunch.

Best Things

The best thing was that the kids looked quite enthusiastic about every activity, and were also confident on whatever they were asked to do, or answer.

The kids looked happy there and they were coming on their own will and not forcefully.

Also, we got the opportunity to visit slums and interact with the people living there.

It was altogether a very different and good experience.

Biggest Lessons

Well, one thing that I realised was that helping the ones who need us gives a great inner satisfaction.

There are a lot of people around us who are underprivileged and need our help.

We should not hesitate in lending our hand to them, and should help them in any way possible.

Helping them grow, helps us grow as a person.
