Duration of internship and timings

May 23, 2016 – June 23, 2016

First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure

Was first introduced to the advocates and was made to feel like I belonged there. The whole office space was shown by the Secretary of my mentor.

The infrastructure was decent with everything available that a new age counsel would need.

Main tasks

During my association with Mehta and Associates, I took interest in how legal proceedings took place in the real world and accordingly I was given tasks.

I regularly accompanied my mentor to court hearings and to arbitration hearings. I was given lots of court cases pending or decided already which were fought by my mentor.

Work environment and people

The environment of the office space was very work friendly and the people there too were very helpful.

I was regularly asked if i was comfortable or not. I had lunch also sometimes with my mentor and other associates.

Best things

Best thing about my internship was that my seniors didn’t had over the top expectations from me and were very helpful if I needed any help. I was also told not to worry if I made any mistakes as it was my first internship.

Bad things

Fortunately I don’t have much to write in this column, except that my internship lasted only for one month.

Biggest Lessons

That to gain knowledge of law, we have to step out in the real world.

Without the exposure no law student can acquire satisfactory legal knowledge.

Also I learnt a great deal about the process of arbitration and mediation. I think it will be very useful to me in future.

Any Other Thing

A law student should not take his internship lightly, it is very important to find an organization or a lawyer which can aptly inculcate knowledge of law through creative and innovative means.

Office Timings

Timings were not very strict. It varied between 11 am to 6 pm.

If on some days I went to some court hearing or arbitration / mediation hearing the timings got a little stretched. But I did not mind that at all, in fact I enjoyed it.
