DAP (IDIA Disability Access Programme) is a key national vertical of IDIA that attempts to foster a more disability friendly ecosystem within the law schools and the legal profession. More specifically, it was conceptualized to address the lack of consideration for differently-abled students in law schools and the profession with regard to the opportunities and infrastructure offered to these students.
IDAP is looking to hire its first Disability Rights Fellow. The Fellow will be tasked with shaping the very future of IDAP. An indicative list of responsibilities of the Fellow is as below:
- Researching, drafting and supporting the filing of litigations towards advancing rights of persons with disabilities;
- Liasing with lawyers who argue the cases we file and briefing them etc.;
- Working on other advocacy initiatives from time to time;
- Supervising the IDAP student team in the preparation of research reports, news and journal articles, consultation papers etc.;
- Working with the core team in organising workshops, trainings etc. for skill development of IDIA scholars with disabilities;
- Leading other IDAP initiatives that may be undertaken from time to time.
The applicant should be a law graduate and should be passionate about disability rights advocacy (please outline evidence of your commitment towards the cause in the cover letter). Prior experience in disability rights issues is desirable, but not mandatory. 2018 graduates are welcome to apply.
Will be commensurate with skills and experience, and on par with similar positions in the non-profit sector.
