Duration of Internship and timings
11th February, 2014 – 13th March, 2014
First impression, first day formalities, infrastructure
On the first day I had submitted the hard copy of my application form and was told of office timings and was introduced to the team of Guwahati HRLN.
They are very friendly people and explained to me what was the mission and vision of HRLN and what HRLN was all about.
The first day was thus spent getting to know about HRLN.
The office is in a small room but the work atmosphere is perhaps the best among the internships I did anywhere.
I was very much interested in cases relating to women and crime. So most of the times I worked with the advocates in cases of domestic violence and divorce.
One of the main tasks of HRLN is that every intern must file RTI’s by finding issues that are related to public benefit and also do fact finding operation.
I with my team members also did research on cases assigned and visited many courts. One of my main jobs was also to take notes when the advocates met the clients.
I had the unique opportunity to help organize and attend a HRLN workshop on awareness of Rights of women. Interning at HRLN Guwahati chapter was really a great experience.
Work environment and people
They are probably the friendliest and coolest bunch of people you will ever meet.
They are very sincere in their work and have a great zeal to work and fight for the rights for their clients.
They really helpful towards their clients and work very hard to protect people against exploitation.
They work pro bono and working with them made me realise what helping people really means.
Work environment is excellent and people are very approachable. You can approach them with any problems and they will readily help you and teach you what you don’t know.
I was very comfortable working with them as they have a way about them that they easily make you feel like you are one of them.
I am honored that I have been able to work with such people who have such a zeal towards human rights.
The best things of the office is the work environment and its people. Also the various books they have on the research projects taken by them.
I have loved to work on the cases and assist the advocates as every work was challenging and a learning experience.
Working there changed my view on lots of things and made me more aware.
A lot of domestic violence, divorce and land cases come to them.
Each time they work on the cases with a renewed zeal to fight for the rights of their clients.
The only bad thing about the office is that it is a bit small and an expansion would not be remiss along with a huge signboard to notify people about the office
I learned to work for the rights of people and understand why it is necessary for pro bono organisations to stand for the rights of the people
I am a localite so I did the internship from home itself. However many low cost PGs and hostels are nearby for people who are from other parts from India
Office timings are not that strict. You do have to arrive at office before 10 am in the morning but you can leave the office if there is no work. But generally office ends at 5.00 pm.
