About
Gujarat National Law Univeristy is organising a three day Advanced Training Programme on Trade Remedies under WTO Dispensationfrom 1st-3rd September, 2017.
About the Training Programme
In the era of globalization World Trade Organization (WTO) is the global intergovernmental organization dealing with rules of trade between countries.
WTO is primarily aimed at accelerating free trade amongst its member states through the process of liberalization within the framework of multilateral trading system.
In certain circumstances liberalized imports maintained by certain trade practices¸ nevertheless, may cause injury to an importing member state’s domestic industry and that member’s commitment to further liberalization might be jeopardized if it is unable to take measures to address the issue.
Under WTO framework measures thus adopted by an importing country to protect the domestic industries from unfair trade practices or from unfair competition are called trade remedies.
Precisely, the terms ‘trade remedies’ refer to anti-dumping actions, countervailing duties and safeguard measures.
The high-level training programme is aimed at offering the participants an overall understanding of WTO disciplines on trade remedies in the form of ant-dumping actions, countervailing duties and safeguard measures.
It will also focus on Indian laws and rules on trade remedies available under the WTO framework.
It is intended to provide the participants a rare opportunity to deepen their knowledge and develop capacities on critical aspects of trade remedies under WTO dispensation.
