About the Organisation 

Established in 1983, Consumer Unity and Trust Society (CUTS) has built up a formidable reputation as a leading research, advocacy and networking group engaged on issues of international trade and development, competition, investment, economic regulation, human development and consumer protection.

CUTS has initiated the inception of the CUTS Institute for Regulation and Competition (CIRC) in India, which aims to fill in the prevailing gaps and enhance knowledge on regulatory issues.

CIRC is hiring for the below mentioned positions.

1. Project Associate – Financial Services Sector

The position expects to help the CIRC team further the mandate of the Institute to provide
research-based training and capacity building solutions in the areas of financial services sector. The Institute promotes understanding and learning in the interface between law and economics.

The researcher will support the team lead in research, liasioning work with government agencies and regulators, developing and executing innovative courses and training programs and conferences in niche area of regulation and competition in the financial services sector.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates holding graduate (LL.B.) or post-graduate degree in law (LL.M.), Masters in Finance, with research and/or teaching experience in the related fields of minimum of four years are encouraged to apply.

Candidates with demonstrable experience in conducting high-level training programmes in the area of financial services sector will be given preference.

2. Research Associate – Law

The position expects to help the CIRC team further the mandate of the Institute to provide
research-based capacity building solutions in the areas of Competition Policy and Law and
Economic Regulation. The Institute promotes understanding and learning in the interface
between law and economics.

The researcher will support the team lead in research studies, conducting field work and designing, developing and executing innovative  training/academic programs and conferences in niche areas including IP, competition law, procurement and regulation.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates holding graduate (LL.B.) or post-graduate degree in law (LL.M.), with research
and/or teaching experience in the related fields of minimum of two years are encouraged to
apply. Candidates with demonstrable research experience interests in the area of intellectual property law and/or competition law/policy will be given preference.

3.  Research Analyst for project on Social Sector Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in India

Assisting in data collection through field visits & personal interviews, research writing
including analysis of case studies and providing policy recommendations.

Qualifications

Educational requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a reputed institution
  • Full-time masters in social sciences/ political science/ public policy/ public administration/ law, journalism or related discipline

Relevant experience

  • Background of working on similar national or international projects in think tank/
    academic institute/ NGO or corporate environment
  • Record of 2-3 publications of research writing out of which at least 2 must be
    independent (one of these could be an unpublished piece/ work submitted for publication
    at the level of a master’s dissertation)

4. Associate Fellow and Fellow, Public-Private Partnerships (PPP)

The Associate Fellow/Fellow shall be part of a team which identifies new areas for
research and development in the field of sustainable development, seek funding from
appropriate sources, identify appropriate research design, carry out field work, organise
workshops and stakeholder conferences, follow up the development and implementation
of the already identified projects in partnership with governments, multilateral and
bilateral institutions, private sector etc.

In addition, he/she will be required to assist staff of the sponsor organisations in articulating the inherent issues and policies in each sector and developing result oriented implementation programmes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Masters degree in at least one of the following fields: Business Administration, Engineering, Law and other related fields.
  • Around 4 years of experience of which at least 3 years of extensive experience related
    to infrastructure PPPs and infrastructure development, preferably in developing
    countries, including the development of policy, legal, and institutional frameworks as
    well as the financial and technical aspects of projects.
  • Good understanding of policy and regulatory issues around PPP development in
    developing countries.
  • Good knowledge of private sector participation in public services provision in developing
    countries.
  • Good knowledge of inclusive PPP regulation and decentralisation legislation in
    developing countries.
  • An excellent knowledge of drafting proposals to donors and governments.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a multicultural team environment.
  • Familiarity with the policies and procedures of multilateral and bilateral institutions.
