It is my pleasure and honour to inform you that the Suraj Sansthan has been able to arrange 7th National Seminar on 09 March 2014, in memory of Dr. Daulat Raj Thanvi, Founder Chairman of Sansthan, in collaboration with ICSSR, New Delhi.
SURAJ SANSTHAN through this conference wants to convey the dire need for Women Reservation in Indian politics. For ages, no matter to which nation they belong, women in general have been suffering from agony, distress, discrimination, apathy. The tormentor turns out to no one but their own family, friends and fellow humans.
Every nation has a sordid story of women discrimination behind it. No doubt, the position and status of the women of today has improved quite significantly, however, women continue to suffer in general even now.
The Indian patriarchal society that dominates the social, political and economic life of people in the country has never encouraged its women in any field, except kitchen! Indian women are relatively disempowered and they enjoy lower status than that of men from times immemorial.
Gender gap exists regarding access to education and employment. It is found that acceptance of unequal gender norms by women are still prevailing in the society.
Fewer women have final say on how to spend their own earnings. Control over cash earnings increases with age, education, status and place of residence. Women’s exposure to media is also less than that to men. Less said the better with regard to their political participation.
Of course, the principle of gender equality is enshrined in the Indian Constitution. The Constitution not only grants equality to women, but also empowers the State to adopt measures of positive discrimination in favour of women. Empowerment is one of the key factors in determining their success. Their development in status and position would elevate women in the society.
Empowering women must be a united approach, a genuine cause that requires continued attention and recognition by all. Women are considered to be more honest, meticulous, and efficient and thus more and more companies preferhiring them for better performance. But still, the state and society seem to be lagging behind in offering them political reservations that were long overdue.
Gender injustice is a problem that is seen all over the world. What ever the causes may be is the duty of humans to protect the human rights of those who are victims. Even though the government is trying to take care of this
natural right by formulating various policies, enacting and formulating laws.
This is not a one man’s job – entire humanity will have to join hands. As again and again said by our Ex. Hon’ble President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam that India must be a developed nation by 2020.
How will the statistics improve if we do not take care about it? Education is a need because the children of educated mothers improve their capabilities and thereby enlarge their choices enjoying long and healthy life, educated environment and having access to better qualifications.
