For applying in Breakthrough NGO, Lucknow one has to email the updated cv with the cover letter at [email protected] and [email protected].

You will not get any confirmation email. You have to call in the office and talk with them about your internship, you can get Office number from the website. There is no registration fee. You have to show recommendation letter or bonafide certificate from your college.

Duration of Internship and Timings

11 January – 17 February 2018

On Saturday and Sunday, the office remains closed. There is specific office timing 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM. For field work, there’s no leave on Saturday.

Accommodation

There is no such problem of accommodation as my home is in Lucknow. Accommodation is not a problem in cities like Lucknow, Hostels and PGs are very easily available in Gomti Nagar and Hajaratganj at reasonable prices. But you have to arrange your own vehicle if you are interested in fieldwork.

Infrastructure and First-day impression & formalities

Honestly speaking, the first-day impression was very good. Office address is available on google maps and easy to find. The office was located in a house it has 4 rooms, two rooms for people who work there one accountant and media room and a meeting room which also turns into the lunchroom. There’s a kitchen attached to the hall where you can easily get water, tea, coffee etc.

On the first day, I was introduced to our co-ordinator Archana Mam. She took a small interview. I have to sign a form relating to Child Safeguarding Policy. There is no compulsion to wear college dress you can be casual or formal depending on you. People working there are very kind hearted and always ready to help you when you need.

Main tasks

If you carry a laptop you will get to work from the office. You will get your own desk, there’s is no big work, if you have basic knowledge of Microsoft office. And for field work you have to help the other trainer who works in communities and school. When I joined video van project was going to launch which would educate people on women and child rights. I witnessed the Video Van run, it was a very good experience.

Work environment and people

The environment was friendly. It was a very good experience to talk with them and work with them. If there’s any problem, our co-ordinator was always there to help.

Best things

I got a chance to be in video van which helped me to interact with rural people especially children. People shared their problems about schools and health facilities. People are not aware of their rights and projects run by the government many of the initiatives failed at the initial level, but the government is wasting the money in a wrong place.

Bad things

Theirs is nothing bad about Breakthrough NGO. But sometimes working in the office you have no work to do. For a Law student, there is no work related to Law.

What did you do to chill? Co-interns, colleagues

No one gets bored in the city like Lucknow. There’s a park in front of the office. There are so many places to see and mall for shopping etc.

Stipend

No stipend.

Biggest Lessons

You will get to know how NGOs work. Being a student, you will feel proud to work for society. In the first year, we have very little knowledge of law so working with an NGO is a good choice.
