The Aligarh Muslim University holds a rich literary & cultural tradition. To carry forward those traditions, The AMU Students’ Union (AMUSU) & The University Debating and literary Club (UDLC) is organizing its prestigious All India Sir Syed Memorial Debate Competition (AISSMD) on 16th & 17th April 2018 in English, Hindi & Urdu respectively.

The AISSMD 2018 is trilingual debate, the motion for the debate is provided as follows:

Awards, Travel Advice, Rules:

In addition to attractive cash prizes, in each language category, there shall be the following awards: Best Team, Runner up Team and 2nd Runner up Team as well as a Best Speaker. The overall winner will be awarded the Sir Syed Memorial Running Trophy. 

Aligarh is only 2.5 hours away from Delhi, either by train or road. Plenty of trains running on the Delhi-Howrah route halt at Aligarh Junction. You may also board a bus from Anand Vihar Bus Terminal or the Noida City Centre Bus Terminal.


Free of cost. All you need to do is fill up the up the registration form, scan it and send it to  aissmd2018@gmail.com on or before 12th April 2018.

ULC, as it was known previously was established in 1973. The club in reality is the extension of the oldest literary Society of AMU, the "MAO College Literary Society" founded by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. In 2015 it was rechristened as the University Debating & Literary club (UDLC).  Wasi Ahmad Nomani was appointed as the first student secretary of the club. The club is very vibrant and organizes many literary programmes throughout the year. In 2015 The UDLC organized the first ever AMU Literary Festival which was graced by eminent journalists & authors. The 2nd Edition of the AMU Literary Festival went a step further in terms of success, we had 18 guests of national and international repute. Along with the Literary Festival, UDLC has introduced Parliamentary Form of Debating in AMU and hosted the AMU Parliamentary debate 2015 in which teams from all over India participated. In addition to the events, the club conducts forums 5 days a week on a regular basis for training fellow students. The forums are: Public speaking forum, MUN/Parliamentary debating forum, Quiz, Book Club, Creative writing, journalistic writing, Urdu Promotion forum , group discussion forum etc.  Future Plan:
