Duration of Internship and Timings
4 weeks (20th June to 20th July). Timings are 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Second and fourth Saturday, and Sundays are holidays.
Main Tasks
The firm is divided into two departments, litigation and corporate. Although I interned under the litigation team, I was given work by the corporate team too. The main tasks given to the interns were as follows:
- The firm encourages you to go to various courts so as to understand the system and gain practical knowledge. On the very first day, we were taken to the City Civil Court by the partners in order to understand how the Court operates. We were made to listen to the proceedings and make notes thereafter. Throughout the course of the internship, we accompanied the partners to the High Court of Karantaka, the Majistrate Court and the City Civil Court.
- We were asked to find various case laws in order to strengthen our clients’ position. We were also asked to read various case files, find arguments for our side and find flaws and weaknesses in the other side’s arguments.
- We were taken to the Arbitration Center to witness cross examinations. We attended the client meetings and assisted the lawyers in finding arguments and drafting questions for the cross examination.
Work Environment
The environment was very productive. The Partners and Associates were very approachable. They would always help us in case we had doubts or we weren’t familiar with the area of law.
Best Things
With the amount of research work given to us, our researching skills enhanced. As the 4 weeks went by, we became closer to the lawyers and as we completed the internship, the firm and its lawyers had become family.
